Advent calendars are great fun for children, making the countdown to Christmas more exciting and meaningful. There are many different ones out there, from branded chocolate calendars, to ones filled with toys and games. Nowadays, you can get advent calendars for just about everyone, not only kids! They’re not all filled with chocolate either, some are filled with foods, drinks, beauty products, you name it, it’ll be out there!
Whether they are for adults or children, however, pre-made advent calendars can be ever so pricey and definitely not something you want to be forking out on when you’re saving for Christmas. So, why not make your own? Let’s get creative and look at some alternate advent calendars that your children will love!
Do you have a child that absolutely loves science? Are they into experiments, or all things creepy crawly? You can definitely make a fun filled calendar based on this! Add in things like little science experiment ideas, or magnifying glasses, maybe some facts. Why not add in this Bug Dig kit from John Lewis?
Most kids love crafts. You can make up a great calendar for them by filling them with cool ideas for craft projects, tools they may need, plus accessories. Are they into jewellery making? It’s all the rage at the moment so there are plenty of beads, tools and things to put in. More arty than crafty? Not a problem! Little paints, brushes, coloured pencils and crayons, chalks, pastels, there’s no end to the things you can add! Want a fairly inexpensive premade calendar? Try out this crafty one from Crayola.
What signals the festive season better than the smell of baking in the house? If your little one aspires to be the next Mary Berry, why not make them up a calendar filled with culinary goodies? You can use simple recipes, cookie cutters, measuring spoons, edible glitter and hundreds and thousands, just to name a few items!
For the kids, (and adults!) that love all things stationery. There’s a plethora of items you can pack this calendar with! Cute shaped post it notes, little notebooks, paperclips, coloured pens, mini highlighters, the list goes on and on. Not got the time? From stories of Jesus, to acts of kindness, crafting projects, to little models so your child can make their own nativity. We love the ideas for Advent activities from Housewife Eclectic!
